alienware 5790 bios update to 1.19w heavy video problems ???

Thread Starter
Hello,

i want to use 4gb ram so i have updated the bios of my alienware 5790 to 1.19w.
It has an geforce 8600m gt 512MB installed.
For testing purposes T1300 Processor.
Now the Graphics Card runs in 4bit Mode and the Device Manager in Vista32 Ultimate reports error code 12, there are not enough ressources to run this card properly.
I load defaults in bios and make hardware reset by reinserting the bios battery.
I have reinstalled vista after bios flash to 1.19w.
With bios 1.15 the system runs without a problem.
Have any of you the same problem ?
I have heared that there is a 1.20u bios.
Can anybody mail the 1.20u bios to enzo80@gmx.de

Thank you very much

and Best Regards

Vista 32 does not use all of that 4 gb of ram you installed. Did you migrate from XP to Vista? If so sounds like drivers.

This is an eerily familiar post.
Sorry I couldnt help you before in the other forum. I have BIOS 1.20U, but never downloaded it from my Hive, and then It was replaced with 1.19W.
I doubt anyone will really have that BIOS. It wasn't in the Hive downloads very long, and most not really needing or thinking of a BIOS update on a brand-new system probably never thought to download it for backup.

I know you said you bought yours second-hand, but maybe if you call Alienware you might get lucky, and If it is still available, a download link.
Your biggest problem is the card- the 8600M is not supported by the M5700i-R2 MB or the 1.20U (1.20U/1.19W are the BIOS versions for the overclocked T7600G- It allows unlocked processor support).

If the 1.15 BIOS you have works, then I would just stick with that. The 1.20U is not for your current CPU, and you may end up with a paperweight If you persist in trying to find a modified BIOS for your system.
