How to change DVDRW drive

Hi!

I have a dell inspiron 630m. My DVDRW is reading DVDs but not CDs. I've tried cleaning it with a dry cotton but to no avail. So I guess I will have to get the drive changed and I'll have to do that myself. Any links where i can buy a new drive for my dell laptop and any instructions on how to change will be most welcome. Thanks.

Is the drive a slot load or standard drive where the drive unit ejects outward??? The reason I ask is that a slot load (self loading) is a little more complicated to get at... A standard drive is usually very easy to change, as you just have to remove one screw, and the bezel to replace it...
Newegg has several standard models for sell at a good price... Also the dell website has service manuals for your model in the support section, this is where I would begin... Good luck...

Step by step:

1) Remove AC Adapter and battery
2) Flip system upside down
3) remove screw marked O on the underside (might have a glyph like a CD)
4) use screwdrvier to push the drive out
5) Remove drive from system.
6) Attach securing "ear" from back of old drive to new one if you're not using a Dell drive
7) ????
8) Profit

Newegg.com carries several different types of slim-line DVDRW drives. I'm partial to slot-loaders and the Pioneer one they have will work in your system just fine, the faceplates just won't be an exact match to the system.
