Broken 7900GT on M1710

Hello,

My 7900 on the Dell M1710 I have has burnt up and I'm looking for a card to replace it with. I had thought the 7950 was a good replacement, but wondered with the shell being an M1710 are there other cards to put in there or is it only the 7900 and 7950.

Also, is there a good place you can think of to purchase these cards? Ebay is kinda dried up now.

Thanks for all help.

Sorry for the delay...been out of town.

For the M1710, you have several options to choose from:

FX1500
FX2500
FX3500
7900GS
7900GTX
7950GTX

Where:

FX1500=7900GS
FX2500=7900GTX
FX3500=7950GTX

I think the ATI X1400 will also work....but it's not something you probably want.

I'll move this thread to the Dell 17-20" Section. Those guys can tell you where to shop for a replacement.

Good luck.

Which one of those cards would be the best gaming card. The 7900 has done me really well, but since I have to get another card I figured I might as well go for the best gaming one.

Also any idea of a good site to purchase from?

either of these four cards

FX2500 =7900GTX
FX3500=7950GTX

The 7950GTX runs at a higher default clock speed than the 7900GTX, but by all accounts the two are pretty darn equal in performance.

can FX3500 fit in m1710 to replace the existing 7950 gtx? Do i need to mod the frame ?

Is http://www.parts-people.com/ good place to buy it?
2500 is way cheaper for not much different in performance. maybe i should get that

theoretically the 7900 fits in a gen-2, right? You just have to cut some extra room, as far as i remember?

Yes, I do believe it fits but I think it involves removing the power button and blah blah....Just too much imo.
