nmi error. non-memory parity error

sup all. i have a 1705 with 7900gs. ive been getting alot of nmi errors nonparity memory errors. so i replace my old mem stick with two brand new ones. well this did not solve the issues. so i reflash my 7900 back to default and still getting this error. i reformat my machine often so im pretty sure the os is affecting it. what else could be the problem?

It seems like it's a symptom of your GPU dying.

The memory error is coming from GPU's memory I think.

Warranty call may help if you still have it.

thanks for the fast replys. i was afraid to think of it, but sounds like you're right. is there any software that can test the mem off the gpu?
check the Dell downloads

I believe there is a utility there that will test the GPU memory

I'm also in the boat of saying the memory on the GPU is dying - may it rest in piece.

yea im thinking the memory is crapping out as well. seems like i probably have to purchase a replacement. which site is currently a good place to look for parts? and also, if im not mistaking, the 7900gt, 8800, fx1500, fx2500, and fx3500 are the only cards that will fit in this 1705 correct?
your GPu options are

7900GS
FX1500 (same as the 7900gs)
FX1600 - is the only next Gen GOU that works with the lastest BIOS Upgrade
7900GTX
FX2500 (Same as the 7900GTX)
7950GTX
FX3500 (Same as the 7950GTX)

the 8800 will not work in your laptop

I just had a three months of these BSOD's untill I catched what the problem was..
I was playing WoW , COD4 , Crysis , and only had bsod's on WoW , then discovered when switching from x4 multisampling to x1 , the bsod's gone.

besides trying that please tell us two more things :
1. check your temps while playing and report back to us.
2. do you have a Wifi card installed ? if so what model ?

i'll try to help before you bury that card..

YES !
good thing I aske'd about your wifi card , cause it's 99% chance that's your problem.
this card is giving bsod's to almost all E1705 , including mine (Gigabyte card)
you should take a look at www.laptopvideo2go.com forums about the modded drivers , not that they helped me , but might help you.

in the mean time , disable the card from the device manager.

awesome. i went to laptopvideo2go and there seems to be a problem with the 7.6.0.224 drivers which is what im currently running. well, there were 2-3 other good drivers out there so im going give those a try and post back. nir. ur da MAN if i get no more bsod.

what i did in the initial stage was run memtest86 to test out the memory stick.
http://www.memtest.org/ go there and download the software. the software runs in dos mode so you'll have to burn it to disk and run it before loading windows. test it with 1 mem stick first if you have 2, and if it doesnt crap out then test the second stick. check you mem stick before testing the video card and/or wifi card. good luck buddy.

I have this problem too. have had it for a while. Happens when playing graphic intensive games...my 7900GS is on it's way out...I know it's not anything else, if's definitely the GPU.

I even get artifacts in GTA-SA, and then after a while I'll get the blue screen NMI error.

Pity replacements are still so damn expensive...

I had this problem for a year and it drove me NUTS. I replaced the memory with no luck. I had upgraded my wifi card (Gigabyte) when I first bought it. I finally put the original Dell wifi card back in and it has been a BSOD free year so far!

the lifespan on these geforce 7 series cards are aweful... and it seems like the 8 series are just as bad too...

is this something nvidia could not know about at the time of manufacturing?
Atticus , if you look at that thread more closely you'll see that for some people here , the BSOD's weren't caused by the video card.

anyway , dell have extended warranties for some Nvidia card owners , after Nvidia acknowledged there's was a problem with some cards die packaging.

for your last question i'm afraid the answer is complexed . in laptops , not all cards are built the same , some laptops have better vent , less heat accumlated , so it's almost impossible to test each vendor's card setup , if you ask me , it's up to Dell to stress test their own laptops , but that's just my opinion.

just to update everybody with my current situation, i updated the atheros drivers to 7.6.0.260 and was doing actually better than my first driver. was crashing on a daily basis now for 3 days (before crashing around every 2 hrs or so). so then i switch to the 7.6.0.239 and these were worse than the .260. so i switch to the 6.0.394 and these have been the best so far. 3 days no carsh and the wifi lights actually works!!!!! thanks nir and others so far. will do more testing and will post back..
