GT212 to Power Next high-end GeForce Card

Coming in at just 40nm, GT212 will replace GTX280 in 1Q09:

In addition to the GT206, ELSA has rather unwillingly revealed what Nvidia is preparing for the first quarter of 2009, the 40nm GT212 GPU and, of course, a new high-en card that uses the chip. Apparently, Nvidia is hoping to release the GT212 card in early Q1 and retire the GeForce GTX 280.

Unfortunately, apart from the fact that it will be faster than the GTX 280, information about the GT212-equipped GeForce is scarce so we don't have its specs or price, yet.

I'm impressed. Nvidia will have a working chip based on a smaller die size than Intel. That's the first time I've heard anyone else beat the CPU king in fabrication technology in the last 2-3 years.

They have to if they want to keep their market share. They've taken a hit since it's been shown that their high end cards are much more expensive than AMD's with not much (if any) of a performance gain. And on top of that, they have to deal with the bad publicity resulting from the failures of the mobile 8400s & 8600s. If they had not been able to manufacture some good publicity, AMD could have taken over their number one spot for dedicated graphics.
