Macbook vs Dell inspiron, help!!

Hello I need help coz i dont really know what to buy.
I have basically 2 options, A Dell inspiron 1318 vs a Macbook.
I really prefer Leopard against Vista, but the dell is cheaper and is good enought.

Dell inspiron 1318
Intel core duo: 2.0 Ghz. 3Gb Ram, 250gb. Intel X3100 graphics, SD reader, 13.3 inches, bettery 9 cell. and 700$ Its very good, but is Vista!! =(

And the macbook is the cheaper one of the macbooks.
Intel core duo, 2.1 Ghz, 1gb ram, 120 gb, intel X3100, 13,3 inches, Webcam 2.0 and 1100$

I really dont care about the 120gb of space, i think is enought.
I know the dell have better attributes but a mac run perfectly with that attributes, and once again i love Leopard and hate Vista...

The real question is, will the dell run as fast as the macbook? When it starts, opening files, playing games, etc.?
Which one would you buy?

Thank you for your help!

The dell would be faster all software the same most likely.

However my latest bout with Vista has reminded me that I never want to touch the thing, and if I was looking at that Dell, I would have to add in the cost of obtaining a copy of XP for it, which is even more difficult lately.

So personally I would go with the Macbook yes.

Oh i thought the macbook was faster... Well i dont know, if both are fast i prefer the macbook. And when i feel it starts slowing down i can update it up to 4gb of ram.

Oh i forgot a factor:
I want it for college, the 4 years or maybe 3.

What are you going into in college?

By the way, just so you know neither will be great at playing games. While the IGP in both of them will probably be able to handle some at low to medium settings, don't expect to be able to play the latest and greatest, and don't expect to be able to play much at the highest settings at all. There was a thread a bit back that if you search for you can probably find about gaming on the IGP in the Macbook.

Processor performance between both computers should be relatively the same, theoretically, as they're only 2.0 and 2.1 GHz. The 3 gigs of RAM on the Dell will speed things up, however, one must take into account the fact that Vista is a memory hog; will the 3 gigs make much of a difference compared to the 1 in the MacBook with Vista running?

Alternatively, for a couple hundred dollars more there is the 1299 MacBook which has a 2.4 GHz processor and 2 gigs of RAM. It also is a better deal as it can burn DVDs which the 1099 MacBook cannot.

As a college student you can get 100 dollars off the price of the MacBook. Also, if you order by the 15th you also get a free 8 gig iPod touch or 8 gig iPod Nano (the Touch and Nano released on Tuesday are not eligible for the rebate, just to let you know) and a free printer which further increases the value of the machine against the Dell.

Yeah, i was thinking in the macbook for 1299 too. But it is a little expensive for me. And i dont know how much is my butget yet. I need autorization from daddy XD

But if i can of course ill go with that (the more expencive laptop), I needed to know what was a better option between those. Macbook 1099$ and Dell inspiron. I think the dell won, but Vista... Why Vista??!!

Dell wins on price. The MacBook wins on value.

LOL what the hell are you talking about? DELL wins on value too, it has a bigger HDD, more RAM, card reader, express slot, more usb ports

3GB of ram Vs 1GB, WAKE UP ppl,

also bigger hard drives are faster becuase of data density

EX: 120GB (3.5") max read is about 50MB/s
1TB (3.5") max read is about 120MB/s

both HDD's are the same RPM speed.

That depends on what you value. Windows, for me, reliably hoses something in the way of device drivers given enough time. Firewire, USB, graphics. You name it. 500 Uber-byte hard drive or working peripherals 2 years after installing the OS? ;-)

Also, larger hard drives do not instantly equate to greater throughput. 3 platters of 120 will typically be slower than one platter of 360.
