When will Dell release CENTRINO 2 line ??????

Hello all,
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 9200 in Janaury 2005. It has been an excellent laptop since day #1, but an upgrade is now in order!
Can ANYBODY have a clue as to when Dell will release laptops based on the new CENTRINO 2 line ???? I'd love to buy another Dell, but if they don't plan on upgrading the hardware soon, then I'll have to go to another brand.
Any comments would be appreciated!

centrino 2 is available in the Latitude E Series and new precisions, I don't think the consumer level systems are all that far behind.

I'd love to get a Studio 17 with a Centrino 2 update. Your reply gives me hope. Thanks MrEvil ! ;-)

Well, I simply got tired of waiting. Sometimes I just don't understand Dell.
And because Dell could not give me what I wanted, I went to somebody who could.
So I am now the proud and happy owner of a Toshiba Satellite P300-01S.
I wanted a nice entertainment laptop based on the Centrino 2 platform, and that's what I got. And I couldn't be happier with this nice little piece of hardware.

I'm not saying that I'll never consider buying another DELL, just that this time around they couldn't deliver on what I wanted. Maybe next time. ;-)

What made you decide against the Latitudes?

I gave up on Toshiba. Why? Because they feel they need to re-write every single little driver on the machine. That and install a lot of bloat that just slows the computer down. While the specialized driver might sound good, note that updates and fixes are much much slower than getting drivers directly from the OEM of the parts inside a notebook. The last Toshiba I worked on, out of the box the task tray took up 1/2 of the task bar! That's just silly. And if I dared uninstall anything too much stuff was reliant on too much bloat, so things stopped working that shouldn't have. So no more Toshiba for me.

I'm a financial analyst, so when i'm working at home on the laptop, I'm always number crunching spreadsheets in excel. Because of this, I wanted a laptop with a numeric keypad. ( I currently use an external keypad with my Inspiron 9200, and it's a pain !)
That's one reason. The second being my 8 year-old son who likes to play games whenever I'm not on the laptop. Which is why I was looking at the Studio 17.

Isn't the Cantiga GM45 Chipset a Centrino 2 line of chips? If so, the Studio line of Dell's has this. So it is Centrino 2, right? That and so far the press has called the differences between the Centrino 1 and Centrino 2 processors a wash. Take for instance the 9400 C1 and the 9500 C2 chips. They are 2.5 Ghz and 2.53 Ghz both with 6 meg cache and both with 35 watt power needs. The C2 chips do have a slightly faster bus speed, but that only equates to less battery time. So, what's the big difference? I guess Dell thinks that it's not big difference either. So why pay more for a processor that doesn't return on the investment? (The C2 chips are more expensive.)

To be fair, there are not too many laptops on the market today which don't ship with a huge amount of pre-installed bloatware . This was the case with my Inspiron 9200 when I bought it. My new Toshiba was no different. Which is why I always FORMAT and install a clean copy of Windows as soon as I get a new laptop.
And drivers are why I wanted a Centrino 2. I get the main drivers straight from Intel, and to this day I still prefer the Omega drivers for the ATI hardware in my laptop.

Nope. For Centrino 2 ,the Core 2 Duo has to be part of the "P" series with the 1066mhz bus. Not the case with the current line of Studio 17's, which use the "T" series.
