P105-S9337 DVD drive issue

Thread Starter
Hi everyone. I am on my P105-S9337 Toshiba laptop as we speak, and I have a very weird/frustrating problem with it. It has vista home premium installed on it, and the dvd drive just doesn't show up anywhere. I go to my computer, and all I see it a hard drive. Any of you have been through this before? would mch appreciate any help... I wanna play COD4 already

Update: I think the dvd-drive might be disconnected from within the laptop? If so how do I go about opening up this laptop to fix it? the toshiba website has been pretty useless so far.

I assume its out of warranty now?? It may also be that your optical drive has died. If its out of warranty, here is the disassembly instructions:

If you haven't already done it the first thing is do a system restore to a date before your DVD drive "disappeared" If your drive doesn't show after that undo the restore and then i would suggest using the Toshiba recovery DVD. It may seem a bit drastic but nothing is more drastic than taking a laptop apart to see if the DVD has become disconnected ( very doubtful if it has)

well i tried to use the internet to help me find a way to fix it but no help. i also tried to mess with the device manager settings but it says driver updated. and well i cant use the computer restore disks cause the disk drive dont work. i also tried using an external d drive to install the factory disks but i cant install that cuase well yeah my drive dont work. only thing i have left to do is go to geek squad but that gets pretty expensive im sure.

Try taking the optical drive out and reseating it, using the guide link from Saugen above. This should be simple to do.

If that does not work, then next step is to borrow an external (USB) optical drive and re-install OS.

you dont need the restore disks to do a system restore...if you can remember when the problem of the dvd drive not working started, try going to Start>programs>accessories>System tools>System restore and see if you have a restore day which preceeds your issue...
