Dell XPS m1710 Replacement Question - Page 2

Ya I can always upgrade that stuff which is nice. Memory is fine for now and so is my hd. As for what happened, I was just browsing the internet when my screen went black then flashed blue with an error message. Turned it off and back on with no results. Screen stayed illuminated but would not load the dell logo or windows. LED lights did turn on. Called dell they said possible motherboard or video card problem. Told me those parts are on back order so they upgraded me to m1730. I should get the new notebook this Thursday or Friday. When I get the new one I will send the old one back. Thats how it works.

*Ok well here is an update and I am quite unhappy. My order was placed on 9/18 and I have checked it everyday. Finally estimated ship and delivery dates were posted for 9/25 and 9/26. It is now Sunday and the order still says in Production. Been like that for over a week. I have called Dell many times to ask what’s going on and they say they are experiencing heavy volume. This is a replacement system that I need for College. I am home on holiday break and I go back on Wednesday. Has anyone else had this problem? Isn’t it stated that you will receive a replacement within 7-10 days. Dell didn’t’ even update the ship and delivery date now that those have expired. Couldn’t they at least do that so I have an idea? They already screwed me once. Believe me I gave them hell and all they say is sorry. If this does not come by tomorrow or Wednesday and that’s definitely past the replacement policy time, what do I do?

If it has not shipped by the time you leave have them ship it to your Dorm.

You may want to request next day shipping if they can get it out Monday or Tuesday.

It is already set for next day shipping. I want an accurate date though since they already gave me false information. Still has the 25th and 26th.

First. It's 7-10 business days to ship it out. So technically they have until the 28th to ship it out.

Hey$p33D, my m1730 replacement was supposed to ship out as well on the 26th. Someone from dell gave me a call and said my m1730 didnt ship because of a back order on lcd's. wtf....this is dell. multi million dollar corporation. and they are short on lcd's. what is this. anyways, the status on dell's website says that its still in production. and on top of it dell doesnt know when a new estimated ship date will be available.

WTF? They did not say anything was back ordered like the LCD. And I doubt CrysDark that they ship out on Sundays as today is the 28th and I am still seeing in production status.
same here man. after talking with a manger she told 'production' to expedite my order. this cant be much help because my status is still showing that my system is in production. this is madness. after 4 systems that were configured for me, each were canceled. and finally dell gets the configuration right and cant send it. im soo impatient.

Hey Bryan, that comment is uncalled for... I have the right to be upset and pushy especially since my 2 yr old $4500 comp broke out of the blue due to their superb quality build... I bet you would be on their case too if they gave you bullshit answers and wrong delivery times. keep in mind I have no other computer for college and they are passed their promised replacement date. Ya... so don't be a snot and post your unnecessary comment. FYI: Their the ones who pushed for the m1730 replacement....

Yes your $4500.00 computer broke and your getting a better one instead,

Toshiba, IBM, ACER etc all would have made you send the laptop in for repair and you would not be getting a Newer and much faster laptop in its place.

If you read the fine print all shipping times are only estimates and subject to change.

I uderstand your not happy your M1710 died, but dude your getting a M1730 with a 8800SLI GPU. Others here would die to get that, manu just get the M1710 with the 8700 GPU. So Dell has more than made up for the inconvienace with this offer. Thats the point you should be focused on.

Enjoy your M1730.

I agree. I remember I went through just as much hell as you after my 6 month old Inspiron 9300 died...and that was only to get a E1705 that was barely upgraded at all from my initial purchase. Yet I still am a loyal Dell customer and understand that complications happen.

Just take a step back and think about all you're actually getting here.

Dave its the inaccuracies and poor customer service that dell has exhibited towards me that has warranted my response. The only reason I am getting a "better one" is because they discontinued the m1710. Don't know what you have heard but that's what 5 managers have told me. And FYI to you, they did pull the 8700's on me so I did not get the 8800 free of aggravation.... I got what is performance wise equal or better. And they could have the common decency of updating their info and sticking to the replacement policy.

Pdonket, one can't step back from their horrendous customer support and care. It's ridiculous with the amount of time wasted trying to get someone with correct info on my replacement status. Oh im sorry or we have no clue on the day....

I'm not trying to say that there aren't inadequacies in their company, because there are, it's just that soon enough you'll have a great system to enjoy. Just exhibit some patience unhappiness gets you very little often times

Ya Pdonket I have been patient as I have waited the required time allotted to a replacement system which is in the warranty. I do not have a computer at school though so you can see I have an urgency. Ya and soon as being?? They don't have the decency to update my outdated info to give me a new estimated ship time... Been in production for too long.. A bit odd?
