Dell XPS m1710 Replacement Question - Page 4

Update... Called Dell today and now they say its still back ordered after this XPS tech last Friday told me it was done. Come the **** on. I am getting 5 people who say its waiting for pickup and 4 who say its still in production waiting on a gray wing flap. Can't take much more of the lies.. And they have no clue when it will be done.

I got an email from the rep ive been working with. she said the the estimated time of arrival provided for the lcd is 11-08. so my guess is that after dell gets everything they need to build our laptops then it would be shipped out. nothing to do but be patient until then. i cant really complain, im going from an m170 to a decked out m1730 free of charge...after the warranty expired. just have to be patient a little longer is all.

Congrats! I haven't even gotten an email... Spoken to 15 diff reps. No one communicates back. I requested a wing flap change around a week ago.. The guy never got back to me either. Ya.. been patient 4 weeks now..... No computer to use..

I've spoken with 3 different people in regards to the exchange so far.

The first told me 7-10 business days.
The second, 2-3 weeks. (10-15 business days).
The third, a 10-12 day backorder.

Of course, I don't know what to add the 10-12 day backorder to. If you add it to the original estimated shipping date, then that would mean that I should have it between this thursday and next monday. If you consider the original 7-10 days plus the 10-12 day backorder, that's actually pretty close to the original shipping date plus the backorder.

On the other hand, if you add 10-12 to 2-3 weeks, you get a delivery between Oct 22nd and 24th, which would REALLY suck. (My math could be off...I just got back from crossfit and my brain is broken.)

I'm calling today to try to get the system specs, It better not be the frickin wing-flaps holding things up...I'd happily take blue if it would speed things up!

Good Luck. blue shows a delay on their website fyi

Blue, grey, red...whatever. My point was I'm not gonna get hung up on the colour.

Anyway, I called them today. They don't know when it's going to ship...but they gave me the specs at least.

Core 2 Duo t8300 (current t7400)
2 GB RAM (current 2 GB RAM)
Ageia Physics card (current - software)
Dual 256 MB 8700m GT SLI (current 512 MB 7950 GTX)

I'm a bit wary about that video card. I did some surfing, and it seems to be reviewed fairly well...but slightly below the 7950 GTX. On the other hand, I'm getting a faster processor, a physics card and a build-in numeric keypad. So I will reserve judgement until I've been able to try it out.

I'm becoming very impatient...but I don't think there is anything I can really do about it.

Rofl not hung up on the color when the color wing flap is the only component holding our machines up. LOL. Ya they got ya on the video card but whatever

I just checked the shipping info page for my M1730 replacement system. According to the page, it was shipped today and should be here by tomorrow.

It seems like my waiting will finally pay off soon.
Hmmm. Considering your estimated shipping time was Oct 2nd and mine was Sept 25th, I am jelous. (I'm sure the original poster is too.)

Oh well. I'm hoping that means ours will be on their way soon as well.
well October 2 was actually the scheduled delivery date but, semantics when you're talking about next day delivery. I can't recall but I'd you guys have the XPS warranty or just the ones they gave out when the nvidia stuff starting dying?

And I'm
Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I'm scheduled to receive the blue flaps as opposed to the gray ones.
That was my mistake...the estimated delivery date was Sept 25th.

I dunno which flaps I'm getting, but I'm on my original Complete Care warranty...not the extension.

Its got to be the damn gray wing flaps. Isn't it moronic that they customize our replacements with a color that is delayed for over a month and don't tell you.....
And I have the 4 year complete care warranty.

Now I am getting reports from Dell management that it is the LCD screen itself that is holding up my order and that it won't be done till end of November. Anyone else getting this BS from dell. Not the wing flaps but the LCD itself.
The guy I talked to yesterday supposed tried to find out what was causing the backorder, but after having me hold for 15 minutes or so he wasn't able to give me an answer.

Sooo...anybody get any updates?

Nope... Still telling me the LCD and wing flaps are back ordered. I have two expedite orders though, so I am hoping mine will ship soon.
I sent an email yesterday, asking why I'd been given two totally different order numbers, and which specific parts were back-ordered. Nothing back yet.

(The email was to an agent I had already dealt with.)
this was sent to me the day my laptop was supposed to ship back on the 26th of last month....

Good Day!
This is to advise you that there will be some delays on issuing the replacement XPS.
We got a word from our manufacturing that the order is on shortage for the LCD, the estimated time of arrival provided for the part is 11-08.
I already sent a request to expedite but as of to date , there is no new Estimated ship date yet.
Rest assured that I will monitor this for you until you received the replacement.

Regards,

That is what a customer service agent told me today as well. He said my new date is 11/14.... Thing is they never sent me out an email or called me. That's what is bothersome. So I guess No one will be receiving M1730 laptops, replacement or new in the near future with this massive back order. Be nice if they updated their site with this info warning customers of over a month's delay.

November 14th??? As in two months after the order was placed?

That's absurd!
