Dell Latitude cpia ppl is freaking out-HELP

Approximately 2 weeks ago, my son got some water on the keyboard. It was left to dry overnight, and when started up everything worked but the numbers 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,&0. It was left for 3 days untouched, and when turned on it still had the same issue. My husband ran an avast boot scan and some malware/viruses were found. It booted up without issue and ran just fine for the next week and a half. Suddenly yesterday, it descided to have the number issue as well as other keyboard issues. Toolbars on the top of windows slide up out of sight until moused over, and windows open on odd keystrokes. I tried running the bootscan again to repair it, but it did not seem to make a difference. It also beeps several times on start-up. Is this a direct result of the water exposure and if so, why would it work for 2 weeks? If not, what is the issue? Is it viral since it was fixed the first time with a boot scan? It runs XP pro with SP3.

Sounds more like you had viruses and Trojans BEFORE the water got spilled and the water spill has left residue that is shorting out keys. Get a new keyboard, and clean up your system.

Thank you so much! I was wondering just how a little water ( and it wasn't much at all) could be wreaking that much havoc!
