LCD screen size

Dooes anyone make a 1024x768 w/ ATI 9700 in it?

I ordered a PowerPro 5:6, but now Im having second thought about this funny res: 1400x1050

Also surely a lower res and more standard res would be better for gaming?

Do games support 1400x1050?

Will i get 70+ fps in unreal 2004?

Cheers

ati 9700 is for high end laptops mostly, high end laptops will never have 1024x768 as the native res

1440x1050 is actually a perfect res, its not too tiny like 1600x1200, but not too big like 1280x1024, its also a nice balance between high res and refresh rate on the lcd

u can game with most games at 1280x1024 with a 9700 card, 1024x768 will be smooth as silk, u can play it with black space around the image of the game, or stretch the pixels and play full screen

hope that answers ur q

Ok.. But playing with black space kinda defeats the purpose.

So the question is what does 1024x768 look like on a 1430x1050 screen?

On my Inspiron 600m, (native 1024x768) is too slow for 60fps in UT2004. However 800x600 is fast enough but looks crap because of the scaling..

Im thinking maybe I should rather go for a 9600 and 1024x768.. I dont care about windows res.. games is NB

Mattrix-

I am staring at 14x10 now. I like it. Most new games support this res, like unreal tourney. Looks AMAZING widescreen. Other games give you the option to stretch the screen slightly to fill the space. Farcry looks fine on mine as well, no blank space. Actually, both of those games I just mentioned look amazing on my m6n.

Would I turn up the res a bit more if I could. Maybe. But 14x10 is really comfy on my 15.4 screen. Easy to read, can get alot on the screen. I can open a graphics app, like illustrator or autocad, set it to a 4x3 ratio, and have room on the side for other little apps, like winamp or whatnot.

As with all things, try it out and if you dont like it, you have your 15 day window with powernotebooks to trade up for a different model.

OK Im confused.. 1400x1050 is SXGA+ which is 4:3.. Where does widescreen come into this?

But OK what I really want to know is what games look like in 800x600 etc.. IE does the scaling make it look bad?

The black border does not happen on all laptops. My eMachines is 1280x800, and does a real nice job of filling the screen. There is a web site on wide screen gaming. So far the games I've played have all either support this res or scale to it and fill the screen. It does not look skewed or stretched. I far prefer this to the extrapolated look to the black border on my Toshiba.

Update:
The web site dedicated to widescreen gaming:

Don't you think that 1400x1050 is a very big resolution for only 15" display? All the things are very very small !

I want to know how it scales? Surely 1400x1050 is going to give slow FPS for games
