Hi all,
Yesterday when i was watching movie strange lines appeared on screen. I restarted and noticed they even appear on DELL welcome screen;/ so its not driver problem. My laptop temperatures are ok also, and i never overclocked it.
Performance in games dropped to zero too.

Is there any way to fix it or i have to replace my graphic card ?

Make sure the LCD cable is plugged into the video card properly. If possible, plug into a computer screen and see if you get strange lines on that too. If you see strange lines on that too, then I think you should find a new video card. Otherwise it might be an LCD problem.

Hello,

This is Richard from the Dell Communities & and Conversations group. If you are having issues replacing the graphics card or if you were thinking of reseating the card itself, here is the actual service manual for the M170.

Best of luck!

hi there i am pretty new to the forum. Just 15months ago i baught this dell xps 1710 laptop coz at that time it was the only laptop which was affordable and had the 4gigs of memory. And exactly after 15months i was watching a movie wen i had the same exact problem as the guy above had..so i was wondering is it necessary to put the same card or or i can actually use a lower end card coz as i guess the nvidia 7900go gtx 512mb will cost a fortune. And i cant afford it at the moment

actually it does the same in the bios and i am pretty positive that it has some thing to do with the graphics card. But wat my question i guess is if we can really put any other card...like a new lower version card not the expensive one...i am not using it for gaming purposes as much i mean in the lat one year i just played one game.

Its your GPU for sure. Mine just went out and it looks exactly the same. Sorry dude. If its under warranty dell will fix it for ya. Otherwise your gonna have to shell out $500 to get a replacement card that is the same as what you have now. (512mb?)

You can use the X1400 Radeon from the E1705 as a replacement. This card will be significantly less expensive.
