I'm a little hesitant with this one due to lack of info, but committed none-the-less. I don't mind being a guinea pig.

Edit:

What I'd like to see is some suggestions from other members, based on what they find. Nothing too crazy though.

Since I've never done a watercooled rig - I would seriously consider it if it were extremely quiet and could be enclosed.

I got the PSU from a local CPU retailer for *ahem* a steal. Was sitting in stock for quite a while and went on clearance a few weeks ago during our "going back to school tax-free weekend" (been eyeing this one for a long time). Called the store manager aside for a low-ball offer. I was suprised when he accepted.

Long story short - I didn't pick it, it sorta picked me. Would not have purchased otherwise.

Great

I can use you as a guinea pig so I know what to get for my next build lol

well I have the Asus P6T Deluxe and the Intel I7 920 CPU now

The X58 BIOS was out of date roght out of the box - of course
and requires updating for stability and memory fixes.

The DDR3 Memory can be tricky as they specify it nust be kess than 1.7 Volts to be comaptible with the Intel CPU. I can confirm that my OCZ Reaper DDR3 memory did not work with this Mobo and bought some Corsair memory from the QVL list while I am waiting for my 6 GB triple channel memory Kit to arrive.

Turns out my Cosair memory (2GB Kit 2 x 1GB Kit) was defective so I an going to return it today so I can continue to install the OS today.

Looking forward to some pics, Buck.

I posted my info in a separate thread, but I had an absolutely pain free install with the ASUS P6T Deluxe mb and the i7 920. Vista 64-bit installed first time, and I've yet to see a BSOD (crosses fingers). My BIOS is 701 (I believe ... will double check in the morning). I left everything on Auto except for entering the memory timings and frequency.

it will be interesting to see what OC we can get

one site reported a 40% OC with the 920 CPU

Have had little time for CPU/mobo research the past few months - but plan to still move forward with this build. I have everything but major components (CPU vid, mobo, RAM). I hope to do some catching up next week to narrow things down, order, and hope to get it up and running by Christmas.

Buck's back!

I wish I could manage to put together a Nehalem build but the economy seems to be saying no can do

pay close attention to the memory, there is alot of small print on the memory options.

The faster memory can only be used one stick per channel = total of three. and so far only 1 and 2 GB sticks seems to be qualified.

As I discovered the Corsair XMS3 TR3X6G1333C9 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24 memory worked fine in my ASUS P6T but would not even boot with the Gigabyte EX58

I like the PSU choice, Buck. Wonder if the ESA model would be worth the few more bucks? I'm still shopping with PCP&C. Though both are very expensive, either would be a long lasting source of good clean and stable power.

Keep thinking they're gonna break out with a new model any minute...

Hey Boyd. I picked up the psu for <$250 (think I paid a lil over $220). I was going ESA originally - but the retail price was out of my budget. The regular 1200 was still high...until I saw one on clearance at my local Microcenter. Pretty good deal overall. Like you, I look for them to release newer models soon.

I like the additional features ESA-enabled products offer, but, unfortunately, have little time to do anything with computers lately much less monitor performance. Still, a great feature for troubleshooting.

I've been trying to catch up around here and it looks like there are a few i7 builds in the works - Shazza and Dave come to mind. Anyone know if hulioni is working on one?

Edit: Thinking about picking up a core 216 (or two) for GPU. Been out of the loop for a while, how is scaling with newer drivers? Or is there something else on the immediate horizon?
