HP dv4t arrived today / a few questions

Thread Starter
I hope there's some fellow dv4t'ers that can help with with these simple questions:

I didn't order the "TV Tuner w/ remote control", but found the remote control & battery were included in the box. Does this mean my laptop has the tuner? Is there an easy way to find out?

I did order the LED-backlit screen. Is there an easy way to verify if that's what was shipped?

Upon initial boot-up & configuration, I found the front left side of the laptop unacceptably hot. Since then I removed the plug for the remote control to create an airvent of sorts and have let the laptop mostly idle. The temperature has subsided and all seems well. I appear to have a Western Digital hard disk (WD2500BEVS-60UST0) Two questions here:
1) Will the overheating issue return during normal usage (MS Outlook, web surfing, etc...) or is it limited to rate occassions of intensive disk reads & writes.
2) If I do decide to return, will HP take the laptop back "no questions asked" or do I need to go the route of filing a warranty claim?

Thanks!

Michael

Can't comment on the lcd or temps, but I would imagine that the remote that you are referring to is the standard HP DV series multimedia remote, which does not mean that you have the TV tuner.

Look at the fifth picture from this link:

Pay attention to the black rubber hole and the breath hole on your hard drive. It's a flaw as many times this hole of the rubber doesn't fit with the breath hole of the hard drive. As a result, the hard drive runs extremely hot. If you see at this breath hole, manufacturer clearly prints: " Do not cover this hole ".

If it's the case, cut the rubber to avoid it covering the breath hole of hard drive.

The remote control has nothing to do with air circulation in the system. You should pay attention to hard drive and memory covers and keep them clean. Cool air is suck through these covers, absorbs heat from components, then blow out from venting grill by CPU fan. The bottom case also should have some clearance for air, avoid using the laptop on your lap or in bed as cool air is blocking from entering the system.

first
the remote as someone else stated it is the DV remote it only controls functions like playing and stoping dvds and music it is not a TV tuner.

second
the LED lcd they are REALLY thin. if you post a pic of the side of the computer (so i can see thickness of the lcd) i can tell you if it is LED or not

Third
WD hds run hot to start with..... check the vent cover on the hd to make sure it is not blocked... but other then that it is normal
