don't you think that a 1400x1050 resolution is too big for a 15" display ?

no lol welcome to lcd's 2004

I am just waiting for PCTorque to have the 8003LMi available to order it as well. It's the only notebook approaching perfection for me.
The 8004LMi sounds even better but I am sure it's pretty expensive, since the 8003 itself is not the cheapest of laptops. But you do get what you are paying for, it's packed with great stuff. The only problem is the fact that it comes with 2X256 modules. 1GB of ram is a must for me and I will have to throw away these modules as soon as I get the notebook and basically get the whole 1GB ram package.

Anybody have a list price for the 8004?

US prices should be cheaper than EU prices, though.

Dunno. Verkkokauppa.com has listed it on their notebook list, so they are expecting it anytime soon. But it might be as with HP's nc series. It took some 3 months from the first advertisements before actual shippings began. Btw, Acer is releasing several models with MR 9700. Ferrari 3200 and Travelmate 8000 are not the only ones.

As far as I can tell, there are already a few models in the Aspire line that were realeased with 9700's. A few Canadians stores have them listed as in stock.

I need to order a laptop very soon and have narrowed it down to Acer. However, I'm still having a tough time deciding between the Acer Travelmate 8004 and the Aspire 2025

Aspire specs:

OS Microsoft® Windows®
XP Professional
Processor Intel® Pentium® M Processor 1.80GHz
Memory 512MB (256/256)
Storage 80GB hard drive
Super Multi Write Plus (DVD -RW, +RW, -RAM) drive
4-in-1 card reader
TFT Display 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800)
Graphics ATI® MOBILITY
RADEONTM 9700, 128 MB DDR
Connectivity 802.11b/g WLAN, BluetoothTM, Gigabit LAN, V.92 modem

Pros of Aspire
DOTHAN
15.4 inch widescreen
Brighter/Clearvision Screen
Slot-loading DVD+-R
MUCH cooler looking

Cons:
Resolution only 1280x800

The 8004 has pretty much the same specs, but w/ a DVI output and a 15.1 screen, and 1.7 processor

Any help would be very much appreciated, as i'll probably need to place an order w/in the next week. Thanks

The travelmante has 200 lit screen. This is good or is it bad ?

The Aspire 2025 has 220 lit

I bought the Acer Ferrari yesterday, after also spending some type with an Aspire 20xx model in the store, and the only help I can offer is that I find the Ferrari significantly more convenient to type on. I know that the Travelmate 8004 is similarly shaped. Maybe this might matter if you're not planning on using an external keyboard.

margo!!! why!?!?!

lol man the acer ferrari 3000 is being replaced by the 3200 which has an amd64 and 9700 mobility in like a 2 weeks, at least in the UK

Let's put it this way - I bought a really high-end laptop with Radeon 9700 and whatnot (Inspiron XPS), and I realized that I don't need all that stuff. Really. I don't do any video editing or play any FPS games. And I got a really good deal on the Ferrari, so I'd rather have the money I saved to buy something else, like a nice digital camera, or new rollerblades...

Thanks for the input margo...

you said you got to look at them side by side in the store....what did you think of the respective screens?

thanks
Well, I looked at the Ferrari 3000LMi and an Aspire 20xx notebook - I don't know whether the Travelmate uses the same screen as the Ferrari. That said, I find the vertical viewing angles a bit disappointing. As for the Aspire, I can't really tell whether the viewing angles are any different, because I can't put them side by side to compare. The Aspire screen seemed a bit brighter in the store, but I'm not a 100% sure about that. I actually preferred the resolution on the Aspire - better for those long hours of coding.

I am trying to find out if/when you can get this laptop anywhere in the US? Everywhere I check it shows that it is not yet available. Does anyone know the actual release date?

It is the Aspire 2020 series model:
AS2025WLMi
SKU# LX.A2506.001

If anyone knows of a release date or place to purchase in the US I would love to know, I think I finally found the laptop that has everything that I want in an aluminum chassis.

Since its a Dothan system, you are probably looking at a few weeks yet.
