Gaming laptops

I recenently decided I wanted to buy a new gaming laptop. I researched into Dell XPS and Alienware 17x. I compared them, and made one of each that I would like.

I went back today, and alot of the options I wanted were gone, mostly on the alienware side. All of the colors of both computers were SEVERELY limited from 8 to 2, the graphics options were cut ALOT (the top 2 selections are no longer there) illuminated keyboard option is gone, etc.

Is there any reason for this? I was one day from ordering and I come to this, and now I don't know what to do. Now I don't want either of them, because the options that made them good are gone. Now they can't compare to a desktop at all.

Btw, my budget is 3k-3.5k.

They remove and add features all the time.

Alienware and Dell = eww.

If I were you, I'd get either a Clevo or an Asus... killernotebooks is also selling the OCZ Whitebook now (which OWNS), but you might want to wait for other resellers to stock it so you can pick it up for a lower price.

hahaha that gave me a good laugh "the options that made them good are gone" like their colour and a light up keyboard

How many times have you specced them up? when i was buying an alienware i was building them every day till i eventually picked and paid but remember noticing prices fluctuating by a few pound most days on the same config they are constantly updating it to reflect current supply and demand.

It could be that they have run out of illuminated keyboard and they are re-sourcing them to reappear in a few days but as they are not sure how long it will be they dont wanna take the whole system down and stop people ordering or give hi wait times and stop people ordering.

yeah, it seems that alienware is now trying to milk people for money, which makes me very sad because i've been a loyal customer

now, they took out the top 2 in every category. in order to get ANY of them, you have to get ALL of them in the "gamer edition laptop" which base price starts at $4,000. I dont want EVERYTHING top of the line. Now you have a choice of spending $2,500 or $4,000. nothing inbetween. it's kind of lame.
