I have a 5000$ budget to buy an 17" Dell XPS notebook

Should I go now and save around 600$ but be stuck with the buggy 8800 GTX SLI ... with Core 2 Extreme X9000

or

Wait for new XPS with Quad Core and Nvidia 9800 ?

Any news on the next XPS to come ?

I haven't been following along on the XPS's development, but the rule of thumb is to always wait until you NEED a new laptop to buy, and once you do, stop watching what's about to come out and the prices on what you just bought. Saves a lot of buyers remorse.

Actually if you got 5 large to spend, might want to wait a week or two for the Precision M6400 It will have quad core, no SLI, but a 1GB Quadro card. Should be a real demon of a laptop.

Yeah pick one of these up, they're up on the website now and even though they're expensive, they're pretty good buys for how great of a system you get

If it were me, I'd wait. Why? Because of some of the video chip problems nVidia is having. I've read that the next 9800 series won't have these over-heating problems.

Normally, I'd say why wait, but I've suffered from the nVidia over-heat problems. You don't what that.

Personally I've learned, keep a laptop for what it is portable... If you need advance graphics go with a desktop IMHO... I've spent two large as Mr. E says only to get 1/4 of that back in return, and this is less than 1 1/2 years, after my purchase... The ultimate decision is yours but for 5 large you could have an awesome desktop, a great laptop, and some $$$ left in your pocket... JMHO...

I would have to agree. If you allotted only $2000 for a desktop, you could build one ripping system and then pay maybe $700-$1000 on a M1330 or M1530 for a more mobile platform that can still play games to some extent.
