started a couple of days ago.

no not after update, software/hardware installation, and no user config changes.

pretty much this just started all of a sudden. I ran a full system scan with norton, but it found nothing.

yes i am, as a matter of fact a couple of days ago a new thing started coming up.

it comes up about a 1/2 to an hour after i am on the internet, and shutsdown the computer in a minute. (currently i changed the RPC service from restart the computer to take no action in case of failure, so that the computer wont shutdown).

I did a search on google, and it seems as though the random blue screen and the NT message are a result of some sort of a worm.

but the problem is that this msblast.exe worm is from 2003, and i have the patches for it by having sp3 on xp. norton is not picking anything up either.

Can anyone please help me.

Thank you

i personally would remove norton, completely, and use a free AV (i use avast). For spyware i use SpywareBlaster (not intrusive)

Are you sure its a legitimate blue screen when you shut down? I ask because some viruses like making "fake" BSOD's to fool the user into turning off the computer (obviously this doesn't make sense in your situation since you're already turning the computer off). However, if it were a true BSOD, you would have to hard reboot to turn the computer off. Hard rebooting is when you hold the power button for 5 seconds or so until the computer turns off. Soft rebooting would let you just press and release the power button instantly to turn the computer off.

This sounds like a virus to me and the only thing I could suggest is to find another antivirus software package (best solution) or just contact Norton and hope for the best.
