People say Mac's dont get Virus'es?

Is there much truth to this?

I must admit I do enjoy exploring lots of different internet porn & I've found that's where 95% of my Virus issues have come from.....

I figure as popular as Mac's are these days that they are just as likely to get a virus as a PC?

Most(all) viruses are written for Windows. In fact I can't think of a true virus(With the possible exception of the newton virus that is a special case) that operates on the Mac OS. There are however trojans, you need to type in your password for those to do significant damage however.

Is that to say there never will be a virus? Not in the least. In fact I do still reccomend that people keep a copy of a virus scanner availiable(Though not necessarily running in the background) for the future. ClamXAV is a free one that will fit the bill.

But for the time being you are much safer, but there is no substitute for being smart and not doing stupid things while browsing.

Wut he said.

Macs have always had viruses, however, they ran on older versions of MacOS. When Apple switched to a different core engine in OSX their spread was halted as they could not run on OSX.

Still, although there are some trojans on OSX it´s still a lot safer. You just have to do something very stupid to install one.

And of course, like Seablade said, keep an antivirus around just in case.

On my Dell LapTop I've been very happy with Avast ( a free download for home user's ) & on top of that I also use StopZilla.

I have them both always running & have had much better luck then before them.

I've found Norton aint worth a Damn.

Do Mac's run a completely different sort of Virus scans?
Or can I just download the same ones I use now into my Mac after I buy it?

Windows software will only work in Windows. You need software compiled for the Mac, which ClamXAV has a version that is compiled for the mac, as well as being open source and no cost. That is why I mentioned it.
