by "gold metal piece" are you refering to the ribbon cable? if so there are small tabs on the sides of the plastic bracket where it is attached that need to be slid out to the sides. once you do that the ribbon will slide out virtually on it's own. Or is it something more like a standoff? If so, maybe you could remove the one from the new keyboard instead since the one on the mobo doesn't want to budge?
A picture would be good too so we can see what you're dealing with.
