HP dv1000 - recover XP without CD possible?

A friend has a dv1000 and he didn't make any recovery disk when he first bought his computer

Now the notebook has been infected by virus (over 80 hits when being "disinfected") and is unable to boot.

Is there a way to reinstall Windows XP (Home Edition) without recovery CDs or perhaps another way to create the CDs on another computer? (its hard disk is now docked to another computer)

Thanks

Google, google... something like <windows xp recovery cd download free>
I got my Vista HD totally unbootable and unrepairable with the delivered disks by doing a defrag at boot which destroyed the bootmgr file. I found a torrent for Vista Repair CD which got my boot system fixed. There must be equal downloadable images for XP, too.

We are trying to reinstall Windows XP (pls read my post again), not to repair/recover existing installation.

can you boot from CD? if so just pop in another XP installation CD and run the install? You can use the licence key from the laptop for activation afterward

I tried this a couple of years before with a Dell OEM Windows CD to Sony notebook and was not able to activate it using Sony's own key online or by calling the hotline - didn't tell them what I was doing, but they figured out somehow by the product key I gave.

Anyway, I managed to find a friend of a friend of a friend who also has a dv1000 and has made a recovery CD.... phew!

HP dv1000's came with recovery cd's. They did not have to be made by the end user. I have a set that came out of the box with the dv1000.

Either way, you have a copy now. I was going to offer burning ya a copy and mailing it to ya

Thanks for the offer anyway, but it would have been for a different language.

Your dv1000 may have come with a recovery CD, but my friend's dv1000 came without - only came with recovery CD creation software that burns a CD from the recovery partition (I have another dv1000 here too and it's the same). Looks like this varies from market to market, just like with Dell.

Sorry, I have been looking for the CD's your friend needed, I have a HP Pavillon dv1000 that came without recovery disks and has been in need of these CD's to come back to life, is there any chance you can sell me, donate me, a copy? my email is misterkike2003@yahoo.com. Thank you very much.

How about just usin a Windows installation disk, then picking up appropriate drivers and utilities direct from HP?

cheers ...
