Alienware Quality Control - It Exists

For those of us that have been around these parts for some time now, we've all posted a response to the effect "yes, Alienware releases models and options later than other companies due to strict internal testing procedures". Well, here's some proof that they actually complete said internal testing and in this case it probably saved them thousands in future warranty costs.

"There was a time -- back in the mid-'90s -- when Diamond Multimedia was tops in the burgeoning graphics acceleration game. Those days are apparently long gone (and look to stay that way) thanks to recent quality assurance issues affecting many of the company's 512MB Radeon HD 3800 series cards. Those manufactured between January and July of this year are said to suffer problems ranging from a complete lack of power management to plain 'ol "poor soldering." Alienware saw a 10-percent failure rate and shipped back its entire stock, canceling any further dealings with the company. For the record, Diamond doesn't actually manufacture these, acting as a reseller for GeCube, but perhaps was lax in its testing and now is perhaps being lax in its disclosure. The company has indicated that not only is there no problem with its products, its gone so far as to state that "Diamond manufactures the most reliable graphics cards in the industry and our customers' satisfaction is our first priority." Alienware would beg to differ." - Engadget

Thanks for sharing that BFisch06.

This has happened in the past with other hardware, but Alienware doesn't publicly disclose this type of information. I remember specifically them doing this before with a memory manufacturer. With the memory, I had some of the first shipment of a new type of memory installed in one of my older desktops, and Alienware had issues with the rest of that shipment in testing, so they contacted me and arranged a swap out of the potentially bad parts though I didn't have any issues myself.

I've seen lots of people that develop hardware issues after hours of use and claim it proves that Alienware doesn't test their machines, and even some that declare Alienware sent out defective product knowingly. That just doesn't make sense since it's not only not in the customer's best interest, but Alienware's best interest to keep support issues with expensive shipping, labor and hardware costs to the minimum.

Alienware not only tests engineering samples of newly developed hardware before it's released when chosing the products they'll offer in their lines, they test production hardware as well.

Thanks for the info. Alienware tests every config of every components on it's notebooks and desktops VERY strictly to make that it's stable enough to be sold and LAST.

Cmon guys, you should know by now that:
A) Im a happy and super satified owner of an AW laptop.
B) Im first to play Devil's advocate
C) And to the extent of B, be the first to admonish what can at times be over zealous fanboyism be it AW or other
D) I would have gladly have parted with a grip of cash for a black m15x if it was ever released
E) My biggest complaint w/ AW is the tardiness in feature/component updates

No matter how much shit I talk Im still a huge fan of AW, hence why I still troll here haha
Imagine how much shit Id talk if I really didnt like them or possibly hated them.

That said I still find it hard to believe even after the Apple announcement, that AW remained magically unaffected in the wake of the NV grfx fiasco....
