Problem partially resolved. Single card operations are normal. SLI still not resolved but will look to the SLI Zone forums for help.

would you expand the problem? and what were the steps taken to fix it?

I deleted my original post, mostly since it was more of a rant. So here is a better condensed version.

I bought the Dell XPS M1730 and out of the box, Everquest 1 was unplayable with SLI enabled. With SLI disabled and running on one card, it was playable but performance was horrible to the point where I did not want to play. My 4.5 yr old Alienware Area 51m still plays faster, smoother and better. I loaded Half Life 2, since it was a newer more demanding game and received the same results.

In the nVidia control Panel, I disable all the AA settings. I also installed nHancer. On a single card, Everquest 1 and Half Life 2 both perform well as I would expect a machine of this caliper to perform.

Games with SLI enabled are still unplayable in any way. The screen freezes or flickers constantly or the driver crashes. I haven't had time to play with more nVidia control panel settings yet. I would imagine there are optimal settings to make SLI work, or it's a driver problem. I have yet to try to watch a dvd or encode/burn a dvd using Vegas Video.

After reading the boards on slizone.com it would appear that many have problems making SLI work correctly. Further more, it seems I may need to find optimal settings for each and every application/game I use.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've already looked at the setting supplied with the nVidia Control Panel. It's obvious the supplied setting don't work well with my rig. I would imagine different cards and setups might require some tweaking.
