Are all Pentium M products upgradeable to the new Dothan CPU ?? I have the new Acer S200N which is exactely like the JVC Interlink 7310, it has the low voltage Pentium M 1Ghz CPU with Intel 855 Chipset, I was wondering if and when the new low voltage Dothan comes out will I be able to replace my current CPU with one that my happen to be on EBAY in the near future ?? How does one tell if the laptop they have is upgradeable to Dothan ?? Thanks for any help and info. God Bless.

No, you have an Asus S200N, and it's runs on ddr266, and it's the ULV cpu... the ULV cpu is not socketed, so it's on there for good.

Did you get that in taiwan? I was looking for one of those and proportable said that asus couldn't bring them into the US because they sold rights to JVC to sell it as their mininote

Thanks for your reply, but are you 100% sure that the CPU is socketed ?? I have not opend it up yet to confirm, also you are also saying that Dothan needs the faster memory and will not work with the slower ones ?? I bought my laptop off of someone that bought it new from his trip to Asia, so that is how I was able to get one, the JVC 7310 Interlink is same, but it has the gloss black paint, this one has the ASUS name on the lid and is painted a dark grey.

i've talked to proportable pretty extensively on the subject of the s200n (i couldn't make up my mind on which notebook I wanted)...... You should give them a call, or talk to them through IM like I do

the other thing....... there hasn't been a dothan ready notebook out before 2004, the s200n came out last summer...... and the s200 it self has been out for a couple years now.

Do you guys think the HP NC8000 will accept dothan CPU ??
it all depends on bios support i would think.... as a former owner of a hp/compaq product i doubt they will support them...

I assume this is a new pentium prosessor for laptops but what it has greater than these what are in sale ones?
Is it how much better than centrino or something?

Dothan is the second generation P-M processor. It is not better than Centrino because Centrino and Dothan are two completely different things. Centrino is a triad of technologies, the p-M processor, the intel wireless, and a chipset. Dothan is just a processor.

However, if we were to compare Dothan to the current crop of P-Ms then yes... Dothan is better.

Does anyone have a clue how far Dothan is expected to scale before being replaced? There's a local store putting togeather pretty nice seeming laptops based on an Aopen barebone and it's advertised as Dothan ready. I'm playing with the idea of getting one with the 1.4ghz processor and upgrading it to a dothan once prices go down...

The 400MHz FSB Dothans will scale up to 2.0GHz. All Dothans with higher clock speeds (currently only a 2.13GHz model is planned) will use the new 533MHz FSB that will be incompatible with the 855 chipsets (I think).
