Either the card is not readable (compatible) with the reader, or the reader is bad. What are the card specs (HD, size ...)?

well its an adapter for a micro sd card. the card size in 1gb and its sony

Check to see if the latest BIOS updates address this issue. Sometimes bigger cards can not be recognized by the unit until an update is done. I have seen this before with other units...

get yourself another adapter, especially when you deal with sony memory cards - they are very picky. I went through a fews before getting one that can work correctly with sony memory cards.

to do the BIOS update, just go to www.hp.com and then click on the driver's tab.

after that, you can click on the option for HP to auto-detect your system type.

Then it will give you the option to pick which type of windows you have. When you select which operating system you have, it will give you a list of drivers.

Then just download the BIOS update and then install it

before you apply any bios:
. verify your current bios version against the one from hp site
. read the version release carefully. Would it address your current issue? DONT upgrade if your issue is not being stated in the change log!

Sony memory cards are knowm to be very picky. I use them , i have a DSC-h50 camera, I have a sony vaio. The memory card can be read with the built in reader of the vaio with ZERO issue. However, when i tried to read it from another laptop with an external card reader (many of them), it did not work.

Problem was resolved after I bought a reader that only reads Sony cards. You can judge a good "sony" card reader by feeling that there is NO play once you stick the card in the reader slot.

. can you expand as how did you "open" the card? via explorer, via some apps/utiltites?
. have you tried to format the card within the device that you were using (camera etc ..)?

. glad to hear it worked out for your card reader
. can you expand a bit more as "it does not play dvds"? It does not recognise any dvd formats? It cannot play the content? What software are you using to play dvds? etc ...

cheers ...
