Trouble formatting secondary drive

Installed a secondary 250gb disk into my HP Pavilion dv9823cl and when attempting to format the disk I receive the following error message: "the operation cannot be completed because the disk is not initialized"

any ideas?

Start -> diskmgmt.msc

It should ask you to initialize the disk once it detects it.

Then you can format the disk from there as well.
