Problem with SECURITY CHIP - doesn't boot at all

Thread Starter
I own a Lenovo X60 Tablet. A few days ago, I was replacing a broken keyboard because it was outside warranty.

I boot up the computer and find the screen non-responsive but screen LED's flashing. It doesn't turn on at all, the fan starts spinnning for about a second and stops whilst the HD seems to be running.

It beeps four times and after looking it up on Lenovo's sites i came to the conclusion that it was due to the SECURITY CHIP on the system board.

I didn't do anything other than unscrew, and insert the keyboard.

Now the problem is my laptop is now out of warranty and looks like it'll cost alot. What do i do???

There isn't alot on the information of security chips, and it seems irreplacable with another unit (which I can do with a friend who has a computer within warranty <this was a last resort if all failed>)

So what happens if a security chip is broken(?) it must've been pretty fragile or something i dunno.
If anyone knows where it's located maybe i could check the connecter hasn't gotten loose.

PLEASE if anyone can help.
I'm in a bit of a financial crisis and I need my computer by next week for certain works on the HD.

Thanks so much, in advance.
ANY help appreciated

Whilst I sympathise with your problem, I am afraid that discussion of bypassing security and password is not being allowed at NBF. My only recommendation is for you to send the machiine back to Lenovo/IBM

cheers ...

technical help

first, ask your self if you know how to replace a chip. if you don't, send it to a computer repair shop to fix it. but that is hard to find a shop that they know how to fix a motherboard(not replacing the whole motherboard, but replacing the little chip for you). if you wanna learn how to replace it, you can send me a email andyccj@gmail.com
for the equipments. you need to have an hot air gun (soldering station), wooo I think that's too much trouble for you. look online, see how people replace the IC chip. or if you live in san francisco bay area. you can take your laptop to 1133 Taraval st, san francisco, CA is called cosmo computer. pehaps they can help you out. remember there is no connectors for the security chip to the motherboard. only the small legs soldered on the motherboard. for your datas, you can take out your hard drive and put it into an enclosure to get your data out.

good luck

one more thing, today i got a t60, it has a same problem with yours. you can not just replace the security chip. it would only solve the beep sound problem. after that will come up an error massage with 0192 code. which means that the new security chip doesn't talk with the bios. so you have to replace the bios too.
