Dell 1525 Screen Brightness

Can anyone please advise how to permanently adjust the screen brightness?

I've tried the Function/brightness key and Mobility Center, which both work temporarily, but the settings aren't retained after turning the laptop off, then back on.

right click on the battery on your taskbar, click on power options, choose whatever power plan you are set on, and change the brightness levels and hit save, that should do it.
