Gateway mx6920 disassembly

Thread Starter
I have a Gateway mx6920 and the power jack has come loose from the circuit board (I assume) because you can wiggle it and make it work. (it's not the cord, because I tried a new one and it acts the same way, and the jack feels physically loose)

So I need to disassemble it so I can re-solder it. I am not having much luck. I have every screw I can find out, I have the hard drive, DVD, battery, etc all out, and STILL the case won't come apart.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get to the circuit board with the power jack on it?? THANKS in advance!!

take pics of the current "opened" comp, and share with us. Most of the times, there are extra screws that hold the board to the bottom casing that are found near the card reader. Search the forum also for "power jack", you will find tips and hints and pics that can give you some good ideas. Good luck!

Excuse me for jumpiing in the thread. But I'm experiencing the same problem as jbob30, except its a Gateway M350WVN.

The laptops not powering up. Power adaptor is outputting the correct voltage 19V.

I also have everything removed, screws, drive, keyboard, etc. "The top bezel lifts up, but still attached around where the power plugs into the laptop. Left hand side, at the back.

I've removed the rubber feet thinking there might still be a screw there, didn't find any screw.

If theres still a screw there, I couldn't see any.

Can anybody suggest what might still around that area thats holding it together.

Thanks...

I'm showing a picture of the area that I'm having trouble taking the back off. It feels like theres still a screw or something holding it together.

use a credit card, to pry along the hinges. There are snap-ins, that' all. You must then leave a piece of hard paper to keep them from sanpping back in, while you open up the lcd frame.

Are there any write-ups/how-to's on how to dissasemble gateway laptop?

Guys,

I've got to do a chassis swap on my MX6920, are there any detailed how-to's on the web somewhere that anyone knows of on how to dissassemble the laptop down to the bare bottom chassis piece or how to assemble?

Thanks so much!
Donnie

You can find many detailed posts/threads within this section about how to take many laptops apart.

Yes, there are a few detailed links out there to disassemble laptops, but rarely on your own model, when to look for it But one can always use theses for references.

Thanks so much.

I actually found a really good write-up with pictures...

Google.com

search keywords "gateway laptop disassembly" it's the 4th or 5th link down, it says something to the effect of (Gateway NX570X disassembly).

Take care,

Donnie
