aspiire 1644 - hardisk not detected

does anyone knows here how to reset jumper setting for hardisk and cdrom drives. ...this problem occurred after setting-up cd-rom drives as master using eeprom utility. when i check the bios utility hardisk not detected and cd-rom drives shows instead. pls. help...

can you use whatever tool you did, and set the optical drive back to its original state?

oh thanks for reply! well, i actually did! i used the dos version of that said tools 'coz i could not boot into hardisk, but only fails.
i was thinking to upgrade the Bios but i doubt it will get worse.

how about leaving (disconnecting) the optical drive out and see if the hard drive is being detected. If yes, i would recommend trying to somehow reflash the optical drive, or get a new one.

yea! it detect hardrive and it works fine without optcal drive but, after a couple of days it ain't work again, i mean hardrive totally not detected. it sshow optical drive in replacement of hardrive in the bios info..

Let me try to recap.
. You removed the optical drive, and the comp started with just the hard drive in.
. After a few days, system not starting. You checked the BIOS, and it showed the presence of the optical drive and not the hard drive. Question here: was the optical drive still detached?
. What did you do to restart the comp again? Or is it now dead since that last time?

I would also recommend that you replace the cmos battery.

yes! and it works just fine, it booted normally.

no! ...but if i detached the optical drive it shows hardrive detected to bios. it boots but screen blank won't boot to OS...

ok, then i would take the drive out and test it, making sure that it can be accessed. Here lies the possibility of a bad drive or a bad connector

well i guess i had to bring this to the nearest repair center... and i post the outcome.

put it into an external USB housing, then plug it to another comp and see if it can be read

Another working hard drive is your best bet at the moment.

it seems optical drive failure, is there an accesories for testing optical drive?
