Questions about parts for the Area-51 M15X.

Thread Starter
Good Wednesday afternoon everyone. I have some questions about some upgardes that I am thinking about making on my M15X.

(1) What is the cost of the hard drive for the smart-bay? Is there more than one option and how big is it or are they?
(2) What is the cost of the smart-bay battery?
(3) What is the best ram to buy for the M15X? I want to upgrade from 2 to 4 gigs.

Thanks

you will have to call alienware for the price of the battery and harddrive... standard Ram pc 5300 200 dimm 667 mhz ram will work... Geil looks really neat with the yellow heatsinks... Gskill ram also is pretty good... its up to you and what price check newegg.com and other sites to compare price...

Depends on what you mean by best memory. The most popular option is to check newegg.com for great prices like littelfrankus said.

If by “best” you meant best performance memory, the Kingston 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC Ultra Low-Lat CL4 (4-4-4-12) SODIMM (google KHX6400S2ULK2/4G) is the fastest laptop memory out there. Its CL4 memory vs. CL5 meaning it has a lower latency. Only Kingston offers CL4 SODIMM's that i know of, everyone else is CL5. I recently picked up the 4GB kit but haven’t had time for any benchmarks and I plan on using 2GB in the Dell mini (if they ever ship the darn thing)

GSkill has CL4 ram too...and i think GEil does too

Caution, 800Mhz DDR2 RAM will not work on the m15x.

It´s motherboard is limited to 667Mhz. Even though physically the 800Mhz RAM will fit, it won´t work with the system.

I have it in now. it just downclocks to 667 (as do most others). its working well.

yeah it will downclock to what ever speed the computer is...
