I haven't even heard of a 64mb 9700. Doesn't mean there isn't one, but it wouldn't make sense to me.

A new version of the M6n is coming out?
Is there any way to get a DVD burner faster than 2X with an ASUS M6N (or rebadged version of the M6N)???
Also, if you wanted an M6N with 1Gig memory, would you order it from a vendor that way, or order it with 256MB and order the memory from another vendor separately??
Thanks,
Andrew

i would get it with no or 256mb of memory then put 1gb in myself..... thats what i did...

the dothan, wsxga+, and 9700 pro should be out around june i am guessing

but if you want to see something even better check this out: http://proportable.g2.cc/w1promo.jpg I amthinking it will have a 9700 option as well by the time it comes out

Nice!

PLEASE don't be showing me stuff like that!!! <grin>
I REALLY need to order something this week. Other than the all-aluminum (which could have its pros and cons), and other than it being a brand-new design with bugs to work out, and other than a new CPU (which is a year late to come to market) with possible bugs, my guess is that one of these equipped similarly to an M6N is going to cost a good bit more than an M6N right now does??? Would you agree??? The blurb you showed was "quoting" $2500-$3000 and that is going to be the minimum memory, no DVD burner price I would guess.

Woah... that looks great. I guess someone somewhere "gets it" !
We need more options like that in the PC world.

I wouldn't order this one before it has been out for a while though, and certainly not with a 9600Pro by then... but I like everything else about it, especially the screen resolution.

Maybe that's my next notebook for 2005
that is a nice notebook, but i dont like the 9600 64mb

the resolution 1680x1050 is excellent, even tho i dont like widescreen

the aluminum is appealing, the price isn't

Teegunn- the LM50A by LG has a 64mb 9700. I think it makes sense that ATI would make one. After all, they have 64mb and 128mb M10s. I'm guessing the 64mb version is meant for people who are looking for a good quality notebook for a cheap price, or for people who plan on gaming once and a while who dont want to spend all the dough for the 128mb version.

The design isn't that new. It's an Apple PowerBook with its innards switched to a Centrino-based one.

See this thread. And this thread.

Thanks. I just noticed in another thread something about a 64mb ATI9700. It still doesn't make a lot of sense to me however. But, if it exists and people buy it I guess there is a market for it.

Your ASUS link is dead.
When is this laptop going to be released to the US market?
Thanks,

No ETA yet.

The link is half-dead or something. Direct linking seems not to work. I think you will have to go to this site: http://usa.asus.com/products/notebook/nbindex.htm, click on any of the models, and change the alphanumerical model number to w1. For instance, change ...l3series/l3_index.htm to ...w1series/w1_index.htm.

talked to proportable about that promo they've got and it looks like a June debut.... the 9600 ati seems to be a spec that was going to be in it when they made that promo up about a month and a half ago.... 9700 should be the only card they are using it in.

From my understanding, the w1 was an upgraded powerbook design that asus decided not to sell, and instead use for themselves (asus has designed the powerbooks and built some of them).. anyway, would have been a sweet powerbook... but much MUCH better as a PC..... Justin as proportable has a demo and says it rocks...

He said the only issue is whether asus brings it to the US as their own model, or if they whitebook it..... if they put it together, you get one spec.... if proportable puts it together, you get whatever you want.... Justin said that Asus is looking to max this system out as far as it can go... his guess is they'd leave it at 1 gig of ram (although it'll take 2), a 5400rpm, 60-80gb drive... because 7200 isn't available yet in large numbers.... and probably a 1.7 dothan.... because 1.8 and 2.0 are going to be far too expensive.

The other worry, shouldn't be a worry........ it's going to use the same motherboard as in the M6..... so I doubt there will be one problem with this.

email justin: justin@proportable.com

He's the only one in north america with a w1 right (he did say that asus has one they were testing, but thats it)

Bummer... Look what I found in the ABS forums (concerning their zForce F2, the AOpen 1557G):

"The Z2 is our ultra-portable line and it won't be equipped with a 128 videocard." Source

Hopefully iBUYPOWER will be offering the Battalion 101 E-Series (also the AOpen 1557G) with Mobility Radeon 9700s (128MB) and Dothan Pentium Ms when they become available.

That's what I'm hoping for Titan.

My only quibble with them is they won't offer an extended warranty with them, even for purchase. They rely on Chembook for that.

I'm considering buying a barebones AOpen 1557x and buying the components seperately to avoid any overhead from resellers. This guy has done so.
