Popular Centrino Notebooks & Corresponding ODMs - Page 5

I know a guy that did something similar. He said it was easy as well.

I'd just want the option of buying the BG wireless and getting an M11. If that were possible, then this would be an option for me.

I like this thread.

Add M6N reseller: rjtech.com (http://www.rjtech.com/miva/merchant....ory_Code=ASUSN)

Known issues for M6N:

15.1 SXGA+ LCD vertical gradient issue (15.4 WSXGA not affected!); the lower part of the screen will be noticably lighter and the top noticably darker than normal notebook LCD's. Since I have this model and my screen is fine I must conclude that this issue is an occassional defect in the LCD part. Or, since Asus allegedly used/uses four LCD models for this unit perhaps the behavior occurs on all of one LCD model, most likely the earliest used one. Asus' support of this issue is sketchy :/

Poweroff when moved; some units will lose power when moved due to slight battery position shift. Pretty sure this can possibly happen to all the M6N's since they all use the same chassis, in any case it did occur on my 15.1 model. The fix is easy and supported by Asus however- they send you a piece of mylar with install instructions to make the battery more secure, and the fix can also be accomplished with small pieces of cardstock or similar material. I've yet to hear of anyone installing the fix and continuing to have the issue.

And on another note, thx so much for this thread! I found out about most these models when I was shopping but you hit some I missed and it's interesting. Also, you prolly already know about this, but one of these models that was previously sold as a Voodoo envy model did have some serious probs apparently- can't recall exactly what the deal was or what model anymore but when I was looking into it Voodoo had dropped the item, which suggests to me the issue(s) were not resolved.

I have yet to have that battery problem. Maybe because I have the widescreen edition but I'm not sure.

I doubt it matters b/c as far as I know the chassis and battery module used for all M6N's are the same. But if yours doesn't do it that's great; some of em never have the issue, some have it consistently, and some just occassionally.

When I spoke about the battery issue to a sales guy at powernotebooks, he said that he believed that there was a new version of the battery that fit more securely.

I have yet to have that battery problem so maybe they already have already distrubted them?

Could be, I just haven't heard to that affect but then I didn't ask ;p In either case, since the fix is so easy and works so well I don't consider it a major issue, and if they're shipping new units with 'snugger' batteries now even better. Just thought it should be put in the supplemental info for the model.

Alrighty... A little update on my situation. I'm buying a notebook near the end of next month, before the fall semester starts.

It's down to the MiTAC 8050 and the Compal CL56.

AOpen 1557G: Out! Reason: Questionable build quality, the multiple keys bug.

Asus M6N: Out! Reason: I want a 128MB M11.

ECS 556e: Out! Reason: Scarce availability, InternetIShop's reseller ratings and reviews scare my pants off, possible BIOS bug.

Acer TravelMate 8003LMI: Out! Reason: Too darn expensive when compared to like notebooks.

What bios issues with the ECS?

guitarded has a nice review over at the review section... i think everythings dandy about that laptop aside from the 3.5 hour battery life

key issue may be fixed with the aopen1557g (i donno for sure and have no confirmation! only speculating )

Supposedly Voodoo PC dropped the model because users were reporting crashes and other anomalies. Regardless, I will not buy from InternetIShop.

Strike the MiTAC 8050 too! Heh... Too expensive when compared to the Compal CL56. After researching and researching, I'm back to the Compal CL56.

I can't wait to get that thing.

if i had to buy a laptop again i'd consider the aopen1557g and compalcl56

i mention the aopen1557g coz no one can confirm if the keypresses have been fixed or have done thourough enuff tests to reveal how well the thermal design holds up interms of parts of the laptop getting warm/hot

plus its damn sesky lookin
