New XPS 1530 Questions

Have not had a laptop for a while and when I did get them, I would not hang on to them for long as I never had the need for them. However, my new job will require the use of one. Nice part - they are paying for it.

Ordered the 1530 a few days ago, loaded. Maxed everything out and also opted for the Solid State hard drive. Hopefully it works as advertised.

I do have just a few questions -

1 - Why did Dell pull the higher resolution panels from the options? Only had the option of 1440?

2 - Is Dell still including all the standard XPS goodies you normally get? The case, cd holder, ear buds.. etc etc or have they gotten cheap and no longer do that? Would suck if they don't.

3 - Lastly, I have read about some issues with the Nvidia GPU. I have also read that Nvidia has rectified this issue. Is that the case with newly built/shipping XPS systems?

Thanks all for any info!

1- From what I've seen recently Dell is running into random part shortages (maybe because of the recent economic issues?) so it's possible that they've decided to cut that whole line out due to shortages at least for a little while

2- They do. At least the last 2 XPS systems I've gotten (M1330 and XPS 420) have both had a nice bundle of goodies which I most certainly love. It may seem childish but god it's fun to have an extra 5 packages to unwrap

3- I believe that the new GPU's should be good to go, if not I think Dell agreed to extend all problematic system's warranties 1 year on the whole computer. On my M1330 with the 8400M (which is technically in the problem category) after gaming everything has been A-ok

Appreciate all the info. No, it is not childish to want to unwrap extra goodies If you were not excited to get extras and were not excited to unwrap them, then I would be worried. Lol. Anyways, I am happy they are still including them. Part of the reason I ordered the XPS.

Interesting info on the panel. Not sure why they pulled it either. Either way, I have heard rave reviews from the 1440 so I don't anticipate a problem. Just want to maximize my screen real estate and not go blind. I hear that is the best resolution.

Yeah, I also heard that they fixed/replaced the GPU issues. Was not sure on that though. I do have a 3yr warranty and accidental plan so everything should be fine. Just did not want to deal with the hassle of replacements right out of the gate.

Thanks!

I got a 1530 myself. Not through Dell but through Best Buy as they had a Stellar sale on them with Blu Ray Drivers and 8600 Cards for 1000 dollars. How could you go wrong? Minimum Processor though at 2 ghz and Screen at the 1280-800. I really want an LED though for mine. I really love having the portable blu ray player though.

Very nice Darkloki!

I did pick up the LED lcd which was a must because I have seen them in person and they are very nice.

Yeah I've been debating where to spend my money on the upgrades first. Mainly 3 things I want to upgrade for all about the same price. T9300 Processor to double my Cache roughly 250 and an LED lcd for about the same price on ebay. And lastly a fast HDD. Currenlty they gave me a 320 gig but it's only 5,400 RPM.
I know I know the more I spend on these parts the less and less I'm saving overall on my lappie, but it's just a habbit of mine to open things up and tinker around with them. PLus I could always sell the parts I end up Discarding.

But Suggestions as to what I should upgrade first? Again I got the whole laptop for about a grand, and was extremely happy with the initial Blu Ray Drive. That aspect along is really what sold me, truth be told.

Depends on what you are going to be using it for. I would say the screen first, then processor, then HD.

Just an FYI - dell no longer sends the sleeve for the laptop or any of the extras. No headphones, sleeve or cd holder.

Yeah, they said they were for a limited time only.

You can have my sleeve if you really want it, I don't use it anymore because I really like my backpack that I use with it now.
