Need help determining if BIOS is up to date...

Thread Starter
I have an M5790 with the x1800 video card, 2.5 gigs of ram. I would like to find out if my BIOS is up to date.

Basically I am having issues with World of Warcraft where whenever I am in the game, I see massive graphical tears everywhere and sometimes it locks my machine up forcing a hard reboot. I am OUT of my warranty with AW. I dont know where to start, so I thought I would start with if there was any drivers updates.

Thanks in advance.

Attached is a screenshot of the graphical tearing that occurs while playing WoW.

Hello

Sorry to see that you're having trouble. Do these artifacts happen outside of the game or any other 3D application?

I recommend checking your MyHive section at our Support Site. http://support.alienware.com - All of the latest drivers and any available BIOS updates are listed on the MyHive site.

Thank you!

I have the m5790, and have no issues with other graphic intensive games regarding artifacts. Your card may be failing/ and or you may need to update drivers/bios. Also I would try a reformat/reinstall of your O/S.

5790 BIOS is 1.19
If you are running XP/Vista 32-bit(x86) download the mobility modder and install the latest Catalyst and driver for your x1800 mobility card.
OR download the vista x86/x64 ATI mobility catalyst 8.371 (newer version than Alienware's 8.342 and without the glitches).

Recommendation:
Reinstall Vista SP1, Load ATI Cat with mobility modder, check to see if you are running BIOS 1.19 (I strongly suggest you get a cooler that blows air up). See specs below for recommended upgrades that you can do- if your card is failing you can get a replacement here-http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/Fujitsu.html

note- the m5790 is a rebranded Uniwill P71/P72 aka Fujitsu Siemens Amilo xi 1554.
Replacement Battery (if you need one) are here: http://yhst-7265593087285.stores.yah.../p716liba.html
