Thread Starter
To those who are adventurous, I just installed Windows XP SP2 on my new Area-51m and like it. It's currently running great & it was a flawless install.

I installed it also Icer, the installation seemed to go off without any problems...So far I like it as it adds some nifty new features and when you go to the Windows Update Site it is entirely different and gives you more options on how & what you want installed...

After installing it, I wasn't able to watch .wmv's in IE. When I clicked on a .wmv link, it would go to a webpage and start listing random symbols. I could watch them if I right-clicked the link and "save target as". Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, I have to do the same thing sometimes Jason, save the file & then play it...But some play right away, it may depend on how it's linked...???

This one is working great for everyone I've spoken with. It is not a hacked up warez version...its officially from MS.

Startup seems slow after install. Restarted again was still slow, defragged it was fine. So good idea to defrag after install.

For what it's worth, SP2 has been a nightmare. They've changed the way memory management works a bit, and it breaks some of the apps we use at work.

Have fun re-installing Windows when SP2 comes out. RC1 cannot be uninstalled.

SP2 is supposed to be released this summer. Its going to be 400 megs.

Whoa... That's huge! Here's for a less than 7 year DL time!

Stupid question: So if you were to do a new install of XP would you need SP1 & 2, or only 2?
All fixes in SP1 are in SP2, but considering that SP2 is still in beta, I would install SP1 first, then SP2. That way if you need to uninstall SP2 for some reason, you won't need to install 1.

Thats not true ewolff, I uninstalled it from 2 different PC's with no problems. When you install it you get the option of backing up your current OS so you can unistall it if you want to...
