Vostro 1400...something strange?

So, i've recently purchased a vostro 1400 from ebay. it was shipped to me with a fresh xp home installed. I've been reading the forums about how the recovery and media direct partitions are erased if you do a fresh install . My Hard drive has a capacity of 160gb, but in windows it said that the C drive was only 149gb. So i was thinking is it possible that the media direct and recovery partition were still there somewhere? so i tired the F11 function, no luck it jus boots regularly. Tried it with the media direct button also, It shows the splash screen of media direct but then starts up windows normally . so does any one have any feedbacks about this situation? Maybe there's a way for me to get the recovery parition and media direct fixed?

If I'm not mistaken a 160GB Hard drive usually formats out to 148-149GB. That's when you factor in that 1GB is 1024MB and overhead for the file system and such.

That's right, a 149GB reading is normal for a 160GB hard drive.

I also have a 160GB hard drive and it only has 149.05GB (including all partitions).

Depending on the market, your Vostro may have been bundled with a Reinstallation CD/DVD out of the factory.
