D610 - can't get external monitor to display 1680x1050

My current problem is this:

I recently got a Dell 2208WFP LCD FLatpanel monitor for my work computer and I cannot set it to 1680x1050 which is the Native Resolution for the Monitor. I have installed the 2208WFP Drivers (both analog and digital) that came on the CD provided with the monitor.

I have the Advance port replicator. The laptop has the Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset. I have the latest drivers for the video card from the Intel website. Version 6.14.10.4764

What is going on? Can this video card even Display 1680x1050???

Please Help! my company help desk is well.. HELPLESS.. and slow to react...

I think your limitation might be due to the 4:3 panel that's built into the laptop. The Intel GMA drivers might have you cut off from any widescreen resolutions because the second you undock you'll have an incompatible resolution for the built-in screen.

True, that is my thoughts as well... Though the laptop should be smart enough to realize it just "undocked" or if you don't use the APR, it should know that you pressed F8 to drive Monitor...

After fishing around... I am thinking that the whole MOBO in the laptop will need to be replaced such that the ATI X300 integrated vid card can be used..

I doubt that will happen to a work laptop.... looks like I am S-O-L... and will have to put a smile on a co-workers face and give him my 2208WFP and get his 20" FP

Aw well...

Ok.. FIXED!!! Woo-Hoo!

Basically.. long and short.. is this ... It works with the APR (Advance port replicator) when you connect the Monitor via the DVI cable.

Now with that being said.. you will NEVER with current OEM drivers be able to drive that 2208WFP via the VGA cable at 1680x1050 resolution.

Ok -- so solution is this:

1. Install both the Analog and Digital Drivers for the 2208WFP (ok do you really need the analog? probably not.. but might as well)
2. Connect the DVI cable to your APR and to your Monitor
3. Enjoy a nice 22" Widescreen LCD Flatpanel at your desk

I did have a slight problem where I can undock the computer just fine.... but when re-docking... it freezes the mouse / keyboard/no wired lan either!!! Not sure if it is related… but I backed out of Video driver Version 6.14.10.4764 (Latest from Intel website) and then tried to install the Dell version (6.14.10.4693) again. But for some reason it didn't want to re-install.. so I tried re-installing the Latest Intel driver again (6.14.10.4764 ) and that didn't work..... so I went to the intel website and downloaded the previous driver listed on Intel’s website of 6.14.10.4670. This one is slightly newer than the version on Dells site 6.14.10.4693. -- Well that seemed to have done the trick! No more locking up / hanging.

So if seems to work fine! I am VERY HAPPY to have gotten it to work!! Not sure if the Video driver had anything to do with the docking/undocking hangups.. but who cares! It works!
