6860 dual display stops apps from working

Thread Starter
I have not been able to successfully use the HDMI or VGA outputs on the side of the laptop. If I use the HDMI, I do get dual displays, but NO program will run after that. I get Microsoft C++ runtime errors for every single program I try to run. So I had to reinstall the OS. When I try the VGA output, I get the secone display just fine. But the problem I am having is that no games will load anymore. I have tried opening city of heroes, spore, and oblivion. All of them don't make it past their load screen. They worked fine before I plugged in the external monitor, and now they wont. I have since unplugged the monitor, and they still don't run. I'm assuming it has to be related to the dual monitor thing somehow. Is there some place that my drivers still think there is a second monitor attached? The games don't throw error messages or anything. Oblivion sits with a small black window in the upper left hand corner of the screen, city of heroes sits with a loading bar in the middle of the screen, and spore doesn't even display anything. All of the apps appear in the task manager, and that is how I have to close them out. Has anyone else had this problem with either this video card, or this laptop? I can't see that I got the one faulty laptop. I have searched tons of places so far with no luck. Please help and ask whatever questions you may need to.

This sounds like a driver issue. Any time you get a program that will not display properly 9 out of 10 times its driver related to how the program handles multi display mode.

First thing you will want to do is make sure you have the mode setup correctly. That is I assume you want to extend the display from one screen to the other so the main desktop is on one, and a blank desktop on the other.

I would also make sure your directX is up to date. Re-install your display drivers (factory first) if that does not solve it, try getting an updated display driver. Let me know if you need help finding that.
