disk drive not working

when i put a cd in the disk drive it will light up and spin but it wont read it and it doesnt show up under My Computer. Not sure if a virus could do this but ive scanned. Any trouble shooting ideas?

Assuming you are running Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us

Scroll down to the registry entries it asks you to modify. You'll need to change the upper and lowerfilters, which should make Windows recognize your drive again.
