moving to Compaq/HP/Woodoo support peer-to-peer

Accessibility can be achieved, after removing the top casing.

cheers ...

remove the top casing to achieve access now thats rather vague and does not really help me. I removed the casing and don't seem to to be able to find out where it's located.

Sorry, I am not at all familiar with that model. However, here is the service manual

It appears to be quite a bit of disassembly to get to the CMOS battery, but it can be done.

What makes you think the CMOS is the reason why your system wont power on?

It could be a bad ac adapter, loose/bad dc connector, bad motherboard...

well, the CMOS battery is quite unique in its form (size and shape). Once you remove the top casing, you shoild be able to see it

thank you both very much.
I am really grateful for the manual you sent me. I am going to have a look through that before I do anything. I am not sure of the reason why it wont turn on. It happen after I plugged in a USB to USB connection to try and send files from one computer to the other. From reading I thought maybe it might have something to do with the CMOS battery but then again it could be the dc connector. The AC adapter seems fine. I am not sure how to check if the DC connector is bad? Or something else entirely?

That does not sound like the CMOS battery at all, as [NFO]N0S mentioned. I suspect that the USB to USB file transfer might just be coincidental, not the cause of your problem.

hmm how would I check and see if it's what NFO suggested?

If you have a friend with a voltage meter, you can test your ac adapter to see if it is giving out any voltage.
