I'm looking for a laptop to do the following tasks for at least the next 2-3 years:
What it must do
(1) Allow for CAD work, in particular SolidWorks.
(2) Allow for good execution of MATLAB code and code in C.
(3) Allow for reasonable playback of video and audio.
What I think it should probably have
(1) Plenty of RAM.
(2) Availability to expand RAM if needed in the future.
(3) Good screen (Matte is easier to read right?)
What it must have/be
(1) Around 1000 CDN. The lower the better!
(2) Good warranty.
What I've considered
I've considered the Lenovo T61. People on other forums have also pointed me in this direction ("Lenovo T61 with dedicated graphics", they say).
The only problem is, I've seen mixed reviews of the T61 online (especially about the customer service) and it looks like a brick. Although I don't care too much about aesthetics, I would at least like my laptop to not look like construction material.
Thank you!
