Hi,

I have a Dell XPS M1730 I bought a month and a half ago.It only came with the single 8700GT 256MB video card.I was able to win and buy a Dell 8700 SLi 512mb dual video card on Ebay for$245.00!!Is this upgrade a wise choice??Will I get better gaming performance? Also,if I chose to recoup some of costs and decide to sell my old card, about how much do you expect I can get for my old card???

regards,

Ko

Hi,

Thanks.Dell wants $550.00 for one so as long as the card is A OK when I get it,then I am GTG.

You will definitely see a chunk of additional performance. As for your old card, I don't think you'll be able to sell it right now. If you did manage to find a buyer, I'd say $120 to $125 given what you paid for the dual 8700m card. You might get more for it a long ways in the future when the laptop is no longer sold by Dell and people start needing replacement parts. I think it'd be better to keep it as a spare.

Thanks for the comments.I just got my card a few days ago.The 8700 dual SLI and replaced the stock single 8700 GT 256mb card with the new DUAL SLI .Install was not bad.Very easy using the Dell made video card replacement put out by Dell on YOUTUBE.Just a whole lot of screws!!LOL.Glad that all the screws I had to remove were only two different sizes instead of various sizes.Shorter screws for all the screws on the lcd and top palm rest and longer screws for all the bottom screws on the bottom side of the system.

I put my old 256MB Dell nVidia 8700GT single video card on Ebay last night and already sold it today for$200.00+shipping!!Not bad return for my upgrade.Only nearly $65.00 I added in for the upgrade after I sold the original card.

Strange results on 3DMARK05.

With DUAL SLI enabled using the nVidia software,I only got a sluggish 4500 on 3DMARK05 but with DUAL SLI disabled,I got a little over 10,000 using stock nVidia software.

I disabled Physx 12mb card with DUAL SLI enabled and ran the 3DMARK05 now got a score of 13922.

For some reason reason, the Physx card causes a issue with my dual sli mode.
