Any portable with "big" (res) screen?

Hi,

I'm looking for a notebook with the following requirements:

1- low noise. *no compromise*
2- low noise. *no compromise*
3- 12" wide. *more or less only if really necessary* I want to keep it small!
4- resolution greater than 1280x800. *if not, then 5 is a must*
5- glossy screen. *if not, then 4 is a must*
6- "powerful enough" to work-with/play/render HDTV videos. I'm going to buy a high def camcorder (mpeg2 or AVC, not sure yet).
7- Optical media is not a must (I only need it on my desk, that's why I have externals).
8- finally, good price (if I can keep it <= 1500, great).
9- small size. weight is not a must, a consequence with this size.
10- good battery.

I really, really would like a 12" with a resolution bigger than 1280x800. C'mon, it's almost 2009 already. Where is the industry? Of course, 6 and 8 are relative. Just to give you an idea, I was thinking about the Lenovo X200.

I really like it, except that it is NOT glossy AND has a shameful resolution (ridiculous 1280x800). The battery is great (9 cell), size, shape, durability, I get the Thinkpad quality (I need mobility more than before these days), bluetooth, pretty much everything and the price is great (it tops at 1300 or a bit more after configuring the way I like - more ram and hdd).

Of course, to get the bigger resolution, I would need to get the X200s (1440x900, excellent), except that it costs much much more (1800) and has a slower processor (I believe it's a low voltage model, the SL*****)?

I'm open to other suggestions, too. Any competitor from Asus? The U6, for example (I know, I know, very different, more powerful, so how is the noise?), has a glossy but low resolution.

Yeah, I think you get the idea: ultraportable with a very good screen and no noise. Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

One of my old 12.1" : MD96400 (same as MSI S270) - fits the bill. 1280x800 though

It's amd, right? I was thinking more about Intel, which I guess still is the better to keep the noise low. Also it's a bit old, no camera (I consider a nice bonus, nothing more), gigabit ethernet ("useful bonus" to me).

Really, if I could get a 12" greater than 1280x800 (even if matte), that would get me. At the same time, there are things like HDMI on notebooks like the Asus U6 (and many others) that is not present on the x200.

Thanks for the suggestion.

A MacBook, at 13.3 inches, fits every single one of those criteria except for number 4 having a resolution of exactly 1200x800.

And every Mac comes with iMovie which can edit HD video out of the box.

I did swap out the sempron with an athlonx64 cpu, max the ram to 1gigo, and the noise is really at a minumum, quiet.

the newer MSI models do come with cam and gigo-ethernet, not sure if you can get it here in usa.

Pollisand, I really wouldn't like to go the OS X route only to edit HD movies in the OS X way. I already have a good software and it isn't worth the hassle to go to a different OS only for that reason. Macbook + OS X is a nice couple, though. Not my style, but nice.

ghn, thanks for that. The px200 is very very good. HDMI, e-sata, all the new tech little things that count a lot together. Great score! I will certainly keep an eye on it (if I can find it)

 You didn't specify Windows only so I made my suggestion based on what you did specify. A MacBook would satisfy every parameter you laid down.

Good luck.

Don't know if you've already made your decision, but this review (http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h1869.htm) does mention that the battery life of the X200 isn't great, which might be worth bearing in mind.
