Hi, I am hoping someone can help me out here?? I have a Gateway MX8715. I lost power and shipped into extended warranty... anyhow they said it was water damage to the motherboard. I have tried to talk to Gateway, I have done google searches, ebay searching everything. I can not find a motherboard under $359. I wanted to know if there are more things I can search and I saw that the emachines have similar components. I am hoping one of you really smart people out there can tell me what emachine would have the same and would it be a different part number or what. My p/n on the motherboard which I read off the memory is a 31PA6MB0042. I am told that the MP8708 and the MX8710 both have the same motherboards. The other part number that has been associated with the motherboard is 4006172R. Here is a copy of the specifications. I hope this helps someone help me!! thanks for reading this.

p.m. SpinItch or just invest some more and get yourself a new comp. Getting into the range of 400$ for repair is not worth it in this stage for the model in question.

cheers ...

It has sentimental value to me as well. My mother passed away from an unexpected stroke and I bought this with some money that I got from her. Also, finding a computer with out problems these days seems to be really hard. This one never had a problem up until this. I have a new HP laptop and desktop and I want to fix this one for my personal use and to use on our boat. Who is Spin Itch?

SpinItch (in one word) is one of many respected forum members in the gateway/eMachines section. He can get you replacement parts or recommending where to find them

Thanks, that is what I thought but I just wanted to make sure I understood correctly! I really appreciate your pointing me in the right direction!!

I also wanted to update and clarify... I got online with a tech support at Emachines and he told me that I needed to send the computer in and have someone put a different board in it and just repair it that way. Those were not his exact words but that's what he meant.

I didn't know that you could do that. I thought the original motherboard had to be put in it. I have pictures of the water damage as well if anyone wants to see them and give me an opinion of whether or not it is fixable.

Thanks.
