Mini PCI wireless locks up my access point

My Linksys wireless access point is locking up after communicating with the mini PCI wireless on the 8887. This does not happen with any of my other machines.

It will work for anywhier from 5-20 minutes, then no more data communication even though Prism utility still shows strong signal.

When I unplug and re-plug power on the access point, it works again (for awhile).

I'm using the Prism utility for configuration (Windows XP configuration is disabled)

I am letting windows Configure the settings, and mine has worked fine for several months now (never had any problems).

My Linksys Access Point is the 54G router/hub/AP (802.11g) and I am using the built-in wireless (802.11b) in my 8887.

I am using the latest drivers from the Sager website (it also worked with the stock drivers on the CD). It seems odd that a wireless card can lock-up an Access Point... not sure I've ever heard of that happening.

You may want to search around on Practically Networked and see if there have been similar problems. That's a great site for all things networking (especially wireless).

Did you install the latest linksys firmware for your wireless router?

Had a similar problem with my AP. Turned out to be interference with my cordless phone (somehow the AP was detecting the same MAC address for phone and one of my laptops). Switched channel on AP to 11 and have not had problem since. (Knock wood.)

I moved to a 5.8GHz cordless just because of the interference problems. Haven't had any interference yet! Friends of mine with the 802.11b router get cordless phone interference often (of course, usually only when the phones are close to the router / NIC).

I forgot about the FIRMWARE update. There is an important update for the router (802.11b model) as well as the WPC11 cards. Make sure you check for updates on Linksys's site.

I upgraded the firmware on the access point and all is well.
