Problem with Dell Latitude E6400 ATG

Thread Starter
I recently purchased this notebook from an auction as is, I knew it had a few problems. One was the DVD-ROM and the other was when booting it requires a fingerprint, I guess from the previous user who tried to screw the company.

So I replaced the DVD-ROM, now I am onto the fingerprint part, how does this work ? is it stored in the bios or on the hdd ?

when you press escape the fingerprint should bypass and you should be allowed to then just input a password. At least my D820 allowed for that (since you can't use the fingerprint reader when docked with the lid shut). Richard_B Is our resident official Dell person and he has helped people clear up BIOS password issues before. As long as the system hasn't been reported stolen he should be able to help you. HOWEVER, if that system has been reported stolen you're SOL.

Here's a question though, is it a BIOS password or a Hard drive password? If its a hard drive password you can just replace the drive and it'll be gone. otherwise it'll be a BIOS password which can only be removed with a special password that only Dell can give you.
