Thread Starter
"Experience the Evolution" with Alienware's new M17, equipped with a mobile quad core CPU and Ati Crossfire graphics. Customizing your notebook with the new upgrades puts the base price on an M17 at $2499. Enjoy the Evolution and customize your own here.

Holy Crap!

Steve - I figured that you would be all over it. I just beat you by a few minutes.
On my thread that I started, it looks like you locked it.
Maybe make the "Direct discussion here" a little bigger so that those that want to comment won't miss it.

I thought the base price was $1399. And I would expect it to be that low too because many would figure out that this is really a OCZ Whitebook, which many resellers have sold already.
The $2499 price was with the Quad core and Dual Graphics cards.

The thing is ugly! The saving grace is: Performance, price and the color/rubberized finish.

I like it myself. It is not as sleek as the m15x or m17x but that is me.

Except that until AMD gets their drivers working, a single 9800M GTX can blow away two 3870 in Crossfire in just about anything and by a significant margin.

And imagine paying an $850 premium on a quad that only goes 2.25GHz?

I see. I apologize, I didn't interpret the OP correctly.

My E1705's 7950GTX gave up it's ghost two weeks ago. I ordered an M15X on Thursday, and luckily had time to cancel it once I saw the M17 added to the AW lineup this morning. I was instructed by my better half to keep it around $2,500, so I couldn't get the Quad.

M17: 2.53ghz T9400, Dual 3870s, 4gb ram, 160gb 7200rpm hd, 1440x900 17" lcd... $2100.

M17 is very price efficient!

My m9700 needs and update and it just keeps getting better and better for the mobile platform vs. desktop discussion. Also if I were to purchase another desktop replacement laptop I wouldn't worry that every week a new mobo or gpu is being released and want to purchase them since mobile platforms for the most part aren't updated so often and in it's current configuration with dual gpu's the M17 looks to be able to hold it's own for a few years.

I'd prefer to go with a lower end cpu and upgrade later. Also definately purchase some GDDR3 memory on the cheap a few months down the road as well.

Good job AW for sticking with a chassis that has stood the test of time as it looks only to be a slightly altered version of the Arima chassis used in the m9750 and m9700 (going strong after 2 years of abuse).

Wow haven't been on in a while and boy did I miss a lot. This thing is a beast yet relatively cheap, OMG!!

.

Sweet!

Well it looks like I'm going to have start saving.

Probably wait until the beginning of next year, while in the mean time, I can read about people's personal experiences w/it.

I like it!!!! NOW WHERE IS THE SILVER!!!???
i would like a picture of the bottomside of the m17...i have an m9700 and honestly its the same chasis but a tad bit fatter for obvious reasons.....

It would be pretty insane if that iluminated keyboard could fit into my m9700...
I did a price comparrison with the OCZ Whitebook and the M17 was slightly cheaper for the same configuration.
I am suprised! AW is usually more expensive.

It wouldn't be a bad thing to purchase a new Laptop after having the last one for 2 years would it?

For some reason I wasn't impressed with the m17x's release but this M17 makes me want it quite badly.
