i need to convert my sony vaio internal hard drive to external as I cannot boot up the system with it.

if all you want to do is make your current internal hdd into an external drive you can use for portable storage etc you just need an enclosure. Like this one for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145136

ain't gonna work, no matter how hard you try. BIOS and OS are not looking at any external drive as bootable device, other than the floppy and (sometimes) a "flash" drive. I have not personally succeeded nor "seeing" anyone that has success!

cheers ...

i do not need it to boot the system. i only need to have a converter to enable me access to my files in it

You don't need a converter for it. Just stick it an external housing (Sata or IDE depending on the drive) and hook it to another comp, you should then be able to access the files (if they are not protected for any reasons)

cheers ...
